Development and Research Volunteer

The volunteer will assist in many aspects of the Northeast Region’s Development Office with particular focus on donor research, fundraising and event planning, working closely with staff members to carry out projects as assigned.  Each area of development work from research, event planning to grant writing will be incorporated into the educational experience of working with a four member fundraising team and an active local Board of Directors.

 

Qualifications:

Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
Knowledge of SAGE database helpful but not required
Ability to work independently in a team environment
Ability to multitask
Attention to detail
Teamwork with other staff members working on events
Interest in Israel

 

Volunteers are expected to make a commitment of at least 2 months, with a range of 20-25 hours per week.  Exact schedule is flexible and can be negotiated.  The volunteer position is unpaid.

 

Learning Objectives

The volunteer will learn how to:

 

Prospect Research

Gather, analyze, and research information on individuals, corporations, foundations, community organizations, and other grant makers, with the AFHU Research Director for the Northeast Region

Input research into database (SAGE) and keep new prospect log

Keep abreast of fundraising news through newspapers, magazines, and online publications

 

Event Planning

Collaborate with the staff on Educational Forums, Parlor Meetings and other special events during the semester.

 

Donor Relations

Draft letters of introduction, assist with correspondence and grant writing as well detailed reports for use by staff members

Cultivate and acknowledge donors who respond to AFHU’s direct mail and online campaigns
