American Friends of The Hebrew University (AFHU), is a national, not-for-profit organization that provides programs, events and fundraising activities in support of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel’s foremost center of higher education and research.  Since inception Hebrew University’s scientists, scholars and researchers are committed to solving the most pressing global challenges of our time. 

The Alumni Relations department supports AFHU Development goals by fostering alumni communities in our regional locations and expanding our alumni community across the US.

This position is a dual report to the Director of Alumni Relations and the Chief Operations Officer of AFHU. This position will partner with the Director of Alumni Relations to implement and coordinate a comprehensive Alumni Relations Program in order to support and complement AFHU’s aim of fostering excellent alumni relations, and to contribute to wider Development and Alumni Relations fundraising success. 


Marketing and Communications

  • Collaborate with the Marketing department on the following:
  • Manage and report on AFHU’s Alumni social media and web presence
  • Assist with writing and editing of marketing copy for web, emails, events, social media, and other related collateral
  • Stay up-to-date on non-profit marketing trends and best practices, especially as it relates to fundraising
  • Engage with alumni and other stakeholders, representing the Department and AFHU in a positive and professional manner


  • Assist in managing alumni annual fund and other campaigns
  • Provide support  promoting regional and national alumni events
  • Assist with the creation of alumni research and in adding to the alumni pipeline including using on line search tools to find lost alumni, prepare alumni research profiles, and confirming alumni information
  • Assist the Director of Alumni Relations and other members of staff in the delivery of national and regional alumni events.

Data Quality and Entry

  • Prepare data quality reports and cleaning data in system
  • Updating data quality spreadsheets
  • Clean data after special projects-Mailing and event data
  • Data entry –  Constituent and Gift Entry support
  • Prepare and run queries
  • Run and format reports as needed
  • Responsible for coordinating report requests

Administrative Support 

  • Provide administrative support to the Alumni Relations Director and the Chief Operations Officer 
  • Manage day-to-day administrative duties for the Alumni Relations Department (filing, maintaining inventory of marketing materials, invoice processing, budget tracking, etc.)
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal staff, external stakeholders and partners
  • Answer the AFHU main numbers and provide backup phone support for the National Executive Director
  • Other duties as assigned 


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years of professional experience in relevant roles
  • Strong proficiency in all programs of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills; self-motivated
  • Ability to seek creative solutions with limited resources
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills, with keen attention to detail
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, resolve problems, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner
  • Ability to use navigate new technologies and programs
  • Ability to work creatively and flexibly in a changing organization
  • Ability to effectively promote organizational mission and values
  • Proficient with social media platforms
  • Experience as a user of Blackbaud’s Raisers Edge 7 (a plus)
  • Experience with online research tools to provide donor research
